The connection between p-frame potentials and t-designs

When p=2, the minima of the p-frame potentials are exactly the finite unit norm tight frames. For other values of p, the minima are substantially more difficult to characterize. Most results are derived from the linear programming techniques first cohesively presented by Cohn and Kumar. Recalling classical properties of t-designs on the unit circle, I will present an alternate view of the minimization problem in dimension 2 to demystify why the linear programming techniques do work in the cases that they do and don't work in the cases that they don't.
