Frames, Erasures, and Excess in Infinite Dimensions

If you remove an element from a frame and your system is still complete, then it is still a frame. This fact is one of many that were proved in the original frame paper by Duffin in Schaeffer. This issue of erasures from a frame has important practical implications for finite frames. However, I will focus on the infinite-dimensional setting, and survey some results inspired by this issue of loss of elements. During the talk I will also reveal what I know about why Duffin and Schaeffer chose the name "frames".
