Dihedral multi-reference alignment

The multi-reference alignment (MRA) problem is the problem of recovering the orbit of a signal from random noisy translates of the signal under the action of a compact group. MRA is a mathematical problem which arises naturally in many imaging setups such as cryo-electron microscopy and has attracted much interest in recent years. In this talk we show that for the action of the dihedral group \(D_{2N}\) on \({\mathbb R}^N\) with a generic probability distribution on the group, almost all signals can be accurately recovered from the first two moments of the measured data.

This talk is based on joint work with Tamir Bendory, Will Leeb, and Nir Sharon.
