Introduction

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, having completed a Ph.D. in Mathematics and B.S. degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering, and doing post-doctoral research at the University of New Mexico. I worked twelve years as a programmer and systems architect after completing undergraduate study, then returned to school and finished my Ph.D. in Spring, 2011.

I was the lead software developer for CSU's precalculus program, an on-line system for delivering pre-calculus mathematics for undergraduate students. The program serves several thousand students each semester, providing video lessons, homework assignments, pre-tests, proctored exams in a secure testing center, and web access to all course materials and reports.

Mathematical Interests

I am interested in modeling physical systems mathematically, including model formulation and computational evaluation and simulation. My research in this area has included problems in physical chemistry, electromagnetic wave propagation in photonic waveguides and photonic crystals, and biological systems. I am also interested in symmetry methods in mathematical physics, including quantum field theory, and in Kaluza-Klein theories as a path to unifying general relativity and quantum field theory.

Personal Interests

I enjoy construction, woodworking, metalworking, and take part in a Medieval recreation group that studies and practices arts (both martial and practical) from the pre-1600 period.
