Workshop on geometry and symmetry
in numerical computation

August 8-10, 2005
Colorado State University
Some of the most exciting developments in modern computational science have resulted from exploiting ideas in areas of mathematics not traditionally associated with numerical computation. Conversely, numerical techniques have been applied to solve computational problems arising in “non-traditional” fields. This workshop brings together experts from computational mathematics and algebraic geometry in order to explore and develop the potential in this rich interdisciplinary area and will describe past achievements, on-going applications, and directions for future exploration. It will be based about the research themes of continuation, bifurcation and homotopy methods, numerical solution of polynomial systems, and computation exploiting symmetry and computation on manifolds. The program is designed planned specifically to introduce and attract students and young investigators to this area.
