Advising – Fall 2017
Students are strongly encouraged to attend at least one advising session. There will be 14 advising sessions scheduled throughout the semester. Snacks will be provided! Advising sessions are group, walk-in advising meetings. They will be targeted to student populations based on concentration (declared or desired). If you are a new Mathematics student, your default concentration is General Mathematics. If you are an Actuarial Science student, please contact Dr. Dan Bates (firstname.lastname@example.org). If you are a Mathematics Education student, please contact either Dr. Paul Kennedy (email@example.com) or Dr. Patrick Shipman (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please, come prepared.

Students should attend an advising session before scheduling an individual appointment. If you are unable to attend an advising session due to schedule conflicts, or if you need to discuss four-year plans, academic difficulties, personal struggles, or other situations that require one-on-one attention, you should schedule an advising appointment. Contact the Academic Success Coordinator (ASC), Roberto Munoz-Alicea, at email@example.com, or select an appointment date and time when appointment campaign invitations are emailed to you.
Most appointments will be held in Weber 101, unless more privacy is required. Please, inform your advisor the purpose of your advising meeting, and make sure that you prepare for your advising meeting (see instructions below).
Tentative walk-in advising schedule:

In some circumstances, advising may take place by phone call or by email.
If you have been assigned to a faculty advisor, please contact your advisor first. If you are unable to get in touch with your faculty advisor, contact the ASC (firstname.lastname@example.org), who will assist you in contacting your faculty advisor.
If you need to declare a concentration, and you are not able to come to an advising session or appointment, you may fill out the paperwork at Weber 101 with either the ASC or the undergraduate coordinator, Annette Gonzales.
Preparing for Advising Meetings
It is vital that you prepare before an advising session or appointment. Please complete the following steps:
· Run a degree progress audit (DARS).
1. From the RamWeb home page, select the “Menu” dropdown in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
2. From the Menu dropdown, select “Academic Planning and Progress”.
3. On this new page, select “Degree Progress Audit (DARS)”.
4. Select “Request Audit”.
5. Request an audit for a declared program or a different program.
· Bring your checksheet (go to http://www.math.colostate.edu/programs/undergraduate/checksheets.shtml) already filled out with the courses that you have completed and the grades obtained.
· Review Major Completion Maps, which provide sample four-year schedules for each concentration:
· Review the class schedule and create a tentative list of courses for the following semester.
· Inform your advisor the purpose of your appointment: advising code, semester advising planning, deciding on a concentration or switching concentrations, etc.
Due to time constraints, if you have not prepared for your advising appointment, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment.
