1) Concerning Exam 3 in
M261, the department has decided to extend the strategy sent out on Nov 15 as
follows. The overall score for each student will be calculated based on the
GREATEST of the following three grading strategies.
(A) (strategy from Nov 15) Exam 3 will not be counted
as part of the overall score in M261. The overall score for each student
will be calculated based on
Exam 1 150 points
Exam 2 150 points
Final 200 points
(B) (strategy from Nov 15) Exam 3 will not be counted as part of the overall
score in M261. The overall score for each student will be calculated based on
Exam 1 100 points
Exam 2 100 points
Final 300 points
(C) Exam 3 will be counted as part of the overall score in M261 as
announced in the beginning of the semester. There will be three different
curves for the students who took the exam in the three different rooms. The
curves are calculated in such a way that the curved average score in each of
the three rooms is 70 (/100) points, and the overall score will be calculated
based on
Exam 1 100 points
Exam 2 100 points
Exam 3 100 points
Final 200 points

Independently of whether strategies (A), (B) or (C) are used to determine an
individual student's grade, the portions of the questions related to the 4
parts of the course will be distributed in the final exam as follows:
Parts 1 and 2: 30%
Parts 3 and 4: 70%
