Mathematical Modeling Competition
Team Preparation Class





The department of mathematics will be hosting weekly mathematical modeling team preparation classes.If you like to use your mathematical and computing skills to solve tough problems you are invited to join us for our organizational meeting on Monday, November 12 at 3pm in Weber 130.If you can't attend the organizational meeting please send an email indicating your interest to Professor Michael Kirby,(kirby@math.colostate.edu).  Students have the option of earning one credit for their participation.

The Mathematical Contest in Modeling will be held February 8--11, 2002.The competition problems will be downloaded from the competition web site and student teams of 2 or 3 students work over a weekend to solve one of two problems.The solutions are then uploaded on February 11.

The contest attracts diverse students and faculty advisors from over 500 institutions around the world. Features of the contest include:The selection of realistic problems chosen with the advice of experts in industry and government.An extended period of time for teams to prepare solution papers within a clearly defined format.The ability of participants to draw on outside resources including computers and texts.An emphasis on clarity of exposition in judging, with the best papers published in professional journals."
