After a short introduction to pattern formation in convection of  compressed gases, I will shortly discuss patterns found in horizontal  Rayleigh-Benard convection. Then I will introduce inclined layer  convection and discuss the linear regime and the nonlinear phase  diagram. Then I report results on the defect turbulent state of undulation chaos and discuss results on the statistics of point defects and their trajectories.  I will conclude my talk with a discussion of  localized bursting observed at the co-dimension two point between transverse and longitudinal rolls.
