Metrics by which CIMS measures success include
- Number of interdisciplinary research proposals submitted and awarded and number of CSU faculty and organizations involved in CIMS sponsored research proposals
- Number of interdisciplinary Ph.D. projects involving CIMS support
- External signs of success of faculty in CIMS such as numbers of invitations to speak, number of publications, citation counts, number of students and postdocs produced evaluated for the interdisciplinary aspects
- Campus-wide polls on the effectiveness and impact of CIMS activities
- Recognition of significant contributions to the intellectual community at CSU
