Adaptive Finite Element Methods for the Identification of Distributed Parameters in Partial Differential Equations
PhD thesis, University of Heidelberg, 2002.

In this thesis, we develop adaptive finite element methods for the numerical solution of inverse problems. Error estimates are derived and used as a basis for adaptive mesh refinement. Further, techniques for the treatment of multiple experiment problems are developed, and applied to inverse problems for coefficients in the Laplace and Helmholtz operators. Also, techniques for the inclusion of bound constraints on the sought parameters are discussed, and integrated into a framework for the efficient solution of such problems.
