Much of my work in ecology involves simulation; my field season is
whenever my computer's on. One nice aspect of working in Java
is that it makes it easy for me to show other people what I'm doing.
Some of these are biological; others are implementations of classic lattice-based models.
Spatially explicit models I work
intensively with a class of models in which time is continuous, space
is discrete, and dynamics are intricate.
Percolation Percolation theory
studies the behavior of certain random subsets of the lattice. I
wrote these little applets to demonstrate the difference between bond
and site percolation.
Lotka-Volterra Can an individual-based
model stochastically interpret the classic Lotka-Volterra equations?
