Day-to-day notes will be posted here. Get in the habit of checking it fairly often...
- Homework twelve, problem one, was written a little carelessly. Instead, let D&alpha be the map f -> &alpha(f) - a0; it has values in &epsilon k[&epsilon], which is isomorphic as k-module to k itself.
- Homework ten, problem two, is temporarily withdrawn...
- I am now officially conceding that I can almost never make my
Thursday office hours. Henceforth, they will be 10-11.
- On homework nine, problem four: The grading in question assigns weight one to x-a and to y-b; it's a different grading than usual. The point is to take a Taylor expansion centered at P.
- There's a corrected version of homework eight.
- On homework 8, 4b, the rational function of interest is F/G.
- Office hours Wednesday, October 18 are 10-11
- New plan for homework presentation.
- Office hours Thursday, October 12 are 1-2.
- Roster for the problem session on October 2.
- On homework 6, two modifications:
- On problem 3, rather than do part (c), find open subsets U and V so that &phi is an isomorphism from U to V.
- On problem 4-5, better notation would be to use coordinates Ze on the target space; reserve the f's for the coordinates of the map, and use the Z's to define the quadric.
- Office hours Thursday, September 28, moved to 9-10.
- Let me (or Holger Kley) know if you think you'd like to go to the Western Algebraic Geometry Seminar
- Problem session on Monday, October 2. Please email me by Wednesday with a problem you'd like to present.
- HW5 -- skip problem five, although you're welcome to do it.
- HW2, 5(b) should concern the locus where &phi(x) = &psi(x).
- No office hours Thursday, September 7. Self-propelled problem session on Friday, September 8.
- In HW2, problem 2, extra credit, assume &phi is a homomorphism of k-algebras.
- In HW1, problem 3a, show that &alpha(X) is contained in Y
