Introduction
This course continues the study of the foundations of analysis and
calculus started in Math 417. Roughly speaking, we will cover
chapters five through eight of the textbook.
Prerequisites
You should have taken (and understood!) Math 417.
Logistics:
- Textbook: Advanced Calculus, Gerald B. Folland.
- MWF 12:00-12:50 ENGRG E205
Requirements and other expectations
As in any other 400-level class, you will need to work both diligently
and creatively.
- Homework 35% Homework will be assigned weekly, and due on
Wednesdays at the beginning of class. No late homework will ever be
accepted. Your work must be neat, and the pages stapled, in order
to be graded. While you are encouraged to work in groups, the
written work you hand in must be your own.
- Midterms 35% There will be two midterm exams:
- An in-class exam on Friday, March 2;
- A take-home exam March 26-March 30.
- Final exam 30% The final exam is on Tuesday, May 8,
4:10PM-6:10PM.
Help
This is challenging material; it's fully expected
that sometimes you'll need a little help. Unless specifically
noted, you're encouraged to work with other students in the class.
(Please observe that the work you actually turn in must be your own.)
Questions directed to j.achter@colostate.edu
will be answered swiftly.
However, some questions are best answered in person. You
