Introduction
This course continues the study of the foundations of analysis and
calculus started in Math 417. Roughly speaking, we will cover
chapters five through eight of the textbook.
Prerequisites
You should have taken (and understood!) Math 417.
Logistics:
- Textbook: Advanced Calculus, Gerald B. Folland.
- MWF 10-10:50 Weber 223.
Requirements and other expectations
As in any other 400-level class, you will need to work both diligently
and creatively.
- Homework 25% Homework will be assigned weekly, and due on
Fridays at the beginning of class. No late homework will ever be
accepted. Your work must be neat, and the pages stapled, in order
to be graded. While you are encouraged to work in groups, the
written work you hand in must be your own.
- Midterms 40% There will be two in-class exams, on Friday,
March 5 and
Friday, April 16 Wednesday, April 21. No makeup exam will be given.
- Final exam 35% The final exam is on Monday, May 10,
3:40pm-5:40pm. Again, no makeup exam will be given. You must pass
the exam in order to pass the course.
Help
This is challenging material; it's fully expected
that sometimes you'll need a little help. Unless specifically
noted, you're encouraged to work with other students in the class.
