Day-to-day notes will be posted here. Get in the habit of checking it fairly often...
- The first math club meeting of the semester is on Tuesday, September 9, at 4PM, in Weber 117.
- On Homework 2, problem 1, omit part c for now. (This would be fair game next week...)
- I will start posting sample solutions to the trickier problems, especially the proofs.
- On Homework 4, problem 4, assume that the determinants are evaluated using only the definition, rather than any fancier techniques (e.g., Gaussian elimination).
- Start studying for the midterm!
- Painter won't be holding office hours the week of September 29,
but those hours will be covered by Bates and Achter. Options for
office hours include:
- Monday 11-12 McArthur
- Monday 2:30-4 Bates
- Monday 4-5 Achter
- Tuesday 10-12 Achter
- Tuesday 1-3 Bates
- Wednesday 11-11:30 McArthur
- No office hours Friday, October 3.
- On homework 8, number 5, the picture in 7 can't be the image of the house under a linear transformation, since the origin isn't preserved; please ignore.
- There were a couple typos in the (alleged) answer keys for HW 85 and HW 9; corrected versions have been posted.
- No office hours Monday, November 17 -- I'll be at the colloquium instead.
- A typo on homework 11, problem 2(c), has been corrected (November 30).
- Here is the example of function approximation from class.
- A clarification on homework 12, problem 1(b), has been posted (December 8, 4:30PM).
- Review problems for the final.
