The Mathematics Graduate Program
Welcome to the Department of Mathematics Graduate Program Website. Here we hope you will find most,
if not all, the information you need to introduce you to our program. For prospective and new students,
this website includes information on how to apply to the program and various options for financial aid.
In addition, all of the updated program requirements and degree options are described in full detail.
The graduate program has approximately sixty to seventy students, the majority of whom are supported by (primarily)
graduate teaching assistantships or graduate research assistantships. Our students have been very successful
finding jobs in academia, industry, government as well as K-12 teaching. We offer three MS programs including a
General Degree, MS with Outside Specialization and an MS in Computational and Applied Mathematics. In addition,
we offer the Ph.D. in Mathematics. Currently, the majority of students in our program seek the Ph.D. as their
terminal degree. We also offer a simultaneous undergraduate-graduate program known as Track III that permits
talented students to take graduate courses before completing their undergraduate degrees.
The mathematics research faculty at Colorado State is a driving force behind the graduate program’s success. The
research faculty, representing areas in both pure and applied mathematics, has a long track record of being awarded
prestigious grants from sources including the National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, the Air Force
Office of Sponsored Research, the National Security Agency, IBM, Siemens Corporate Research, Honeywell, the United States
Forest Service and other government and industrial agencies. This program is distinguished by the close cooperation of
mathematicians and students collaborating across mathematical and interdisciplinary boundaries.
Colorado State University is located in
Fort Collins,
Colorado at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, within an hour of
Rocky Mountain National Park, twenty minutes away from white water rafting on the
Cache La Poudre River; students
have numerous opportunities to enjoy themselves (when not studying).
We invite you to explore the Department’s web-pages to assist you in learning more about us. If you have
additional questions concerning the Mathematics Graduate Program we invite you to email us at
grad_program@math.colostate.edu, or, if you prefer, you may reach
us by telephone at (970)-491-7925. We are quite happy to assist prospective students to get in contact with professors
in areas of their interest. We also encourage visits to the campus to meet the faculty in person. We solicit
applications from mathematically talented students from all fields who seek to prepare themselves for diverse
careers that require strong analytical thinking skills.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Duflot, Professor
