Two new faculty hires to start in 2016

The Department of Mathematics will have two new tenure-track professors start in August of 2016, Mark Shoemaker and Amit Patel. Please join us in welcoming these mathematicians to the department faculty.

Dr. Amit Patel is a 2010 graduate with a Ph.D. from Duke University under the advisement of Herbert Edelsbrunner. He is currently at the School of Mathematics Institute for Advanced Study under the supervision of Robert MacPerson. Dr. Patel is an applied topologist, studying persistent homology and its generalizations

Dr. Mark Shoemaker graduated in 2013 with a Ph.D. from University of Michigan under the advisement of Yongbin Ruan. He is currently a Don H. Tucker postdoctoral fellow in the mathematics department at the University of Utah. Dr. Shoemaker's research is focused on enumerative geometry and its connection to mathematical physics.
