Dr. Margaret Cheney has been invited to deliver the annual Jean Rubin Memorial Lecture at Purdue University

Dr. Margaret Cheney, Albert C. Yates Endowment Chair in Mathematics, has been invited to deliver the annual Jean Rubin Memorial Lecture at Purdue University next academic year (2014-2015). The lecture will be the scientific highlight of the 8th "Women in Mathematics Day" celebration, and is indeed an honor to receive such an invite.

The late Jean E. Rubin was a logician and professor of mathematics who served for many years as the Mathematics Department scholarship chairperson at Purdue University. A scholarship in her name was created shortly after her death in 2003 to continue her work of attracting talented students to study mathematics. This fund provides financial support for the annual "Women in Mathematics Day" event hosted by the Department of Mathematics. Activities center around the Jean E. Rubin Memorial Lecture, delivered by an invited woman mathematician of international prominence.

Previous speakers for this event were Brooke Shipley (2007-08), Jill Pipher (2008-09), Alice Chang (2009-10), Dusa McDuff (2010-11), Ruth Williams (2011-12), Barbara Keyfitz (2012-13) and Irene Fonseca (2013-2014).
