Anthony Schwickerath was awarded a Department of Defense SMART Scholarship

Anthony Schwickerath was awarded a two and a half year Department of Defense SMART Scholarship, beginning August 2012. Only 130 of these competitive STEM scholarships were awarded in 2012. The scholarship covers tuition and includes a monthly stipend and yearly book and health insurance allowances. As part of the scholarship, he will spend the next two summers at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), his sponsoring facility. After graduation, he plans to be employed at NGA for an additional two and a half years as part of his scholarship.

Anthony has an MS in Computer Science, an MS in Mathematics, and over a decade of industry experience in software development. He currently works with Dr. Michael Kirby on anomaly detection in hyperspectral video.

The Department of Defense Science Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service program provides support for both undergraduate and graduate students in STEM disciplines to bolster the technical civilian workforce at Department of Defense research and development facilities. Since the program began in 2006, six Colorado State University students have been awarded this scholarship.
