The Mathematics Department has matched funds from National Science Foundation grants to develop a local area network (LAN). This LAN supports several UNIX workstations, including:
as well as many PCs running windows.
A departmental Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) concerning computing exists.
Modem Access into the University system is available.
Look here for Software applications available on our unix machines.
Faculty members could expect these PC software applications on their office PCs running Windows.
If you want to acquire a machine to hang on our local network, we have recommendations to make. In addition, we also present the reasons why we strongly discourage the use of dual-boot or multi-boot OS machines on the network.
We have a Departmental computer lab in the Room 201 of the Weber Building, which is stocked mostly with Windows NT computers.
A pair of computer classrooms is maintained in rooms 205 and 206 of Weber, jointly with the Department of Statistics; the machines in these facilities are equipped with a host of mathematical and statistical software, as well as printers. See the Math/Stat Lab FAQ for more details on using these computer classrooms.
In addition, the Weber Building hosts the College of Natural Sciences computing lab (second floor southwest side) and the Academic Computing and Networking Services training facility and computer lab (second floor northwest side).
Our labs are connected to the other networks within the University, as well as to the Internet.
