Research:
I study arithmetic geometry, which is a hybrid of number theory and algebraic geometry.
My specific area is on Galois theory of curves in characteristic p.

Career Path:
In grammar school, my favorite teacher once sent us outside to measure the circumference and diameter of anything round.
Highschool is now a blur but I remember messing up a problem about cars passing on a highway.
Luckily my college (Brown) had a lot of classes in algebra and number theory, or I would have ended up with an English major.
I received my doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000 after working with a fantastic advisor Professor D. Harbater.
This was the first time I realized that math professors travel more than journalists.
After graduating, I spent three years as an assistant professor at Columbia University.
I miss the excitement of New York city, including all the people and music and restaurants, but not the view of bricks from my apartment.
This is my third year as a faculty member in the math department at Colorado State University. Stop by my office to say hi.

I'm enjoying Colorado a lot, especially when hiking all the mountain trails. I spend my free time in Fort Collins gardening and going with friends to Lyric Cinema and Bas Bleu. Check out this fantastic art/environmental link
