November 1 Alberto Calabri (Uni. d. Roma Tor Vergata) On special projections of varieties Abstract: Given a variety X in projective space, we will study some properties of the locus of points p for which, when X is projected from p to the next lower space, the projection is not 1-1.
November 8 Mark van Hoeij (Florida State) Algorithms for algebraic curves Abstract: Maple has several algorithms for algebraic curves. In the talk I will describe how some of these algorithms work, such as integral basis, finding a parametrization of rational curves, and more recently added algorithms (joint work with B. Deconinck) such as computing the holomorphic differentials of the first kind and the period matrix.
